Organs Working Together in Homeostasis
Homeostasis
Homeostasis is defined as the property of the system, which may be closed or open, which that helps to regulate the stable and constant condition. It is the maintenance of constant condition in the internal environment regardless of the large swings in the external environment (Mork, 2008-2009). It maintains function like blood pressure, body temperature and rate of respiration including other functions (Allen and Harper, 2009). Homoeostasis is important in the body organs as it helps to regulate the pressure exerted by the differences between internal and extern environment (Mork, 2008-2009). In most case, failure of homeostasis results to malfunction of the specific body organs.
Brain vs. Heart
The brain is the analog processor in the body. It receives information from different parts organs in the body and through feedback mechanism, it stimulate production of hormones which commands the same organ or other organs to function. The coordination between the brain and heart is important since it leads to performance of body organization. The heart feels makes one feel like doing something and this messages is sent to the brain through an afferent nerve and the brain commands other organs to perform the action (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes, 2007). The brain commands organ to do something while the heart supply blood to enable the organ perform that action. The heart is supply oxygenated blood to the brain which enables it to function. Disturbances of the homeostasis between the heart and brain may lead to deficiency of oxygen in the brain which leads to death of brain tissues leading to a coma or paralysis
Esophagus vs. Stomach
The esophagus and the stomach border each other in the gut. They are separated by Sphincter muscle. The esophagus acts as the gate or the lead way toe h brain. It provides the passage of food form the mouth to the stomach (National Digestive Disease Information Clearing House, April 2008). The esophagus ensures that food enters into the stomach as boluses which can be easily digested. Disturbance of the homeostasis between the esophagus and the stomach may lead to disease like indigestion since food entry of food to the stomach is not regulated.
Kidneys vs. Liver
The kidney and the liver are two important organs in the body. The kidney is the main metabolism organ in the body as it metabolizes everything that goes into the body. As such, the kidney excretes a lot of materials. On the other hand, the kidney is the prime excretory organ in the body (Net Doctor, 1998-2010). Therefore while the liver metabolize what goes in the body and in the process give out products to be excreted in the body, the kidney separates urea, mineral salts, toxins an others which are excreted from these products and conserve useful products like water, salt and electrolytes. These two organs work under a complex homeostasis system. If the balance of the homeostasis is disturbed, it may lead to intoxication of body organs leading to failure of the liver or the kidney. This may lead to liver failure which is a serious condition.
Lungs vs. Skin
Lung and skin are two important organs in the body. They are important in the respiratory system and in elimination of the unwanted substances (Salandin, 2009). Among the two, the lung carries out most respiratory functions. Lung and skin carries out gas exchange in the terrestrial environment. Both lungs and skin carries out excretory functions where lung excrete carbon dioxide while skin excrete salts. If the homeostasis between the two is disturbed, it may lead to disease like lung cancer.
Gallbladder vs. Small Intestines
Gall bladder and the small intestine are important in the digestive process. The gall bladder is the main organ in the body that stores bile produced in the liver. The bile is important in the body as it helps in the digestion of fats in the small intestine (Salandin, 2009). The production of gall bladder is triggered by cholecystokinin hormone which signals arrival of fats in the small intestine and hence the gall bladder secretes bile. Bile emulsifies fat into small droplets to increase surface area for digestion. When the homeostasis between the two is disturbed, it may lead to indigestion of fat in the body because it becomes difficult for the small intestine to digest fast without bile. It may also lead to gall bladder disease like gall stones.
Bladder vs. Urethra
Bladder and urethra are involved in the excretion of urine from the body. They work in a homeostasis process that is regulated by sympathetic nerves. Bladder is the main organs that stores urine excreted from the kidney while the urethra excreta urine from the bladder. When the bladder is full, it triggers the opening of the external urethral sphincter which lets the urine out (Net Doctor, 1998-2010). If the homeostasis balance between the two is disturbed, it may lead to condition urinary inconsistence leading to interstitial cystitis characterized by urinary frequency.
Uterus vs. Ovaries
Uterus and ovaries are important reproductive organs in women. The ovaries produce eggs which are fertilized and when conception takes place, the fertilized egg is implanted in the uterus. Both organs are connected through the fallopian tube (Salandin, 2009). The relationship between the two is homeostaticaly regulated by hormone produce by the pituitary gland, hypothalamus, and ovaries. Disturbance of the relationship between the two may lead to failure in implantation of fertilized egg
